Comparing Copolymer Acetal and Dupont Delrin Homopolymer in Sheet and Rods
Homopolymer Acetal or Delrin is a great plastic for turning on a lathe lathe. It is very easy to turn, but it does require slow speeds. I’ve used this stuff to make Scottish small pipes chanters. I have ordered numerous items from Industrial Plastic. Small pieces always ship quickly and everything has been well packed. I have never had an issue with an order.
Between the Delrin and POM-C rods, both materials are exceptionally durable and easily machinable, and they have very similar physical properties. They do look the same, but in practical use there are some differences that may make one better than the other. It also depends on your application. As with any plastic materials, be sure to check the typical properties data sheet for the appropriate properties you may need for your application.
Our Acetal Sheet is definitely our best material for machining, giving an great finish both on manual and CNC Machines. Its got a very low moisture absorption making it the ideal grade for food contact and where the dimensional stability is important. Acetal Sheet has the perfect combination of high mechanical strength, durability and toughness, giving it outstanding sliding properties, electrical insulation, and wear resistance.
Acetal Sheet has numerous uses and is especially of value in the food preparation industry. Because of its low moisture absorption it helped it to achieve Food & Drug Administration approval and its superb sliding abilities which help with very low friction and hard wearing food safe components.
Acetal Sheets are of the plastics chosen within the auto industry because of its long term dimensional stability and durability. It provides solutions for designers to help them create long lasting and very durable components. Another popular area for Tecaform AH is in moisture applications. This environment suits acetal well because the low moisture absorption will result in components that won’t expand or alter dimensions due to contact with water.
